Strands of Hope

ChildVoice International's Strands of Hope paper bead jewelry is hand-made by women who work at the Lukodi Centre in northern Uganda. These beautiful one-of-a-kind necklaces, bracelets, and earrings are made with recycled paper that is carefully cut into long strips, rolled around a needle and secured with glue. The beads are then varnished with an environmental friendly product and dried six times, and strung together to create these beautiful necklaces, bracelets and earrings.

The child mothers who come to the Lukodi Centre have survived the trauma of being kidnapped by rebel armies, forced to be child soldiers and sex slaves, and suffered tremendous brutality. At the Lukodi Centre, these child mothers find safety and receive counseling, nutrition, education, and medical care for themselves and their children.

The recycled paper bead project is empowering women by paying them a fair trade wage for the first time since the rebel war began over 20 years ago. Net proceeds from the paper beads sales offset operating expenses of the Lukodi Centre.
