Farewell Ceremony
by Lowna Gie : March 13, 2010
On the 4th March we had a farewell ceremony for our much loved centre director, Mr. Uma Akena Ferdinand, who retired after working for ChildVoice International for two and a half years. Past and present students, staff, community members, local leaders and the president of ChildVoice all gathered under the mango tree to honor Mr. Akena. The program consisted of singing, dancing, dramas and speeches. In the speeches it was mentioned that Mr. Akena was a man of integrity and principle, who preformed his duties with excellence. One past student said “Mr. Akena was a good man. He was the father we never had and always wanted. He loved us like his own daughters and our children like his own grandchildren.” Finally, no African celebration could be complete without a beautifully iced cake and a delicious meal of meat, chicken, potatoes, cabbage and soda. Awoyo Matek Mr Akena [thank you very much]!
