Give a gift for those in need; speak out for the thousands of children rendered voiceless by war; act on the conviction that children broken by war can be restored in safe communities with loving care, spiritual and emotional counseling, and effective education and vocational training.

Kulubel Farm

Kulubel Farm

The new farm near Lukodi is already bustling with activity. Planting season began early last fall and already Kulubel is reaping the benefits of its hard labor. Fresh beans, maize, avocado, sesame seeds and more are currently being sown and harvested. The farm's location -- next to River Unyama -- and vast fertile acreage mean there is great potential for excellent crop productivity.

Kulubel’s livestock is booming. The number of goats has nearly doubled in the past few months, and there have been many births among the property’s sheep and Boron cows. With continuous support of these projects, the farm will be able to regularly provide highly nutritious foods for our growing children.

Kulubel Farm not only supplies the crops necessary to provide a rich diet for our young residents, but running the farm also provides the community of Kulubel with much needed employment opportunities as well as hands-on training in sustainable agriculture for the young mothers.

How your gift can help the Kulubel Farm:

Cow

Northern Uganda is no different from any other developing country where there is a great dependency on livestock products.  Just one cow can provide up to 12 children with their daily allotment of fresh milk.

Goat

With the capability of producing more than one kid annually, combined with their production of nutritious milk and fertile manure, goats are an exceptional gift for any occasion!

Farming Kit

To sustain adequate production and expand the variety of crops harvested, Kulubel Farm needs a steady flow of seed and fertilizer. Locally hired workers have spent months clearing the land for planting and are eager to make the farm a success. Support the farming initiative that will feed a village!

Chicken

For the dietary protein their eggs offer, there is reason enough to purchase chickens for the Kulubel farm.  But when you consider their high production rate, as well as their added value as provider of fertilizer and pest control, chickens can never been seen as a bad gift.

Lukodi Centre

Lukodi Centre

The ChildVoice International Lukodi Centre is a long-term rehabilitation center for former child soldiers and other children who were affected by war and cannot return to their families. This program provides education programs, vocational training, emotional and spiritual counseling, income generating activities, and early childhood development programs for the girls and their children. Residing in this centre today are twenty-nine child mothers and their thirty-seven children. They have access to clean water, sanitation, and nutritious food in the secure environment our centre provides.

How your gift can help the Lukodi Centre:

Oven for bakery

Large capacity ovens are needed to establish baking centers in the home communities of the girls who have completed the residential program at the Lukodi Centre.

One month at the Lukodi Centre for a child mother and her baby

The centre provides three nutritious meals a day, individual sleeping quarters, and educational and vocational training.

Hippo Roller

This innovative water container is big and easy to move, saving hours of back-breaking work for the young women and children of Lukodi.

Bunk beds for a student/mother and her children

The ability for a mother and child to sleep in the same room but not have to share a bed is priceless.

Bicycle

After the girls have done their baking at the Lukodi Centre, bicycles are needed to deliver their fresh bread to customers in the surrounding villages and towns.

Welcome Package

ChildVoice is currently recruiting new participants for the Lukodi Centre to replace those who have graduated. To facilitate their transition to the program, the new girls and their children will receive new mattresses, basins, blankets, jerry cans, sandals, and uniforms. Not only will these items help the girls navigate daily life at the Centre, they will also instill a sense of comfort and security that will facilitate healing.

Mosquito nets for a block of student housing (20 mothers and their children)

Malaria is a widespread problem throughout Uganda.  Hundreds of cases are diagnosed each month.  The simple protection of a net at night can prevent the spread of malaria and thus save on medical costs and lost work or study hours due to debilitating illness.  A simple but effective tool – give the gift of health!

Trauma counseling for one formerly abducted child mother for a year

Before the child mothers at the ChildVoice Lukodi Centre return to their home communities, they need to deal with the trauma of the past and learn to cope with going back to the place where it began.  Counseling is a vital part of the healing process.

Microloan for program graduates

A small loan is often all that is needed to help a girl start her own small business as a baker or hairdresser. Help launch a young woman’s career!

Bakery Start-Up Kit

To ensure a successful reintegration for the girls, they need tools to start up their own businesses in the vocation of their choosing.  Many of the girls are interested in bakery and need basic pans, small ovens, and utensils to have a thriving bakery.

Sports uniform

A set of shoes, culottes, and a shirt will properly outfit a young woman at the Lukodi Centre for hours of fun on the soccer field.

Library books in local language

Children roam the grounds of the ChildVoice Centre, finding fun everywhere. But, sometimes, nothing beats sitting in your mother’s lap and getting lost in a good book. Help create shared moments of love and learning between mother and child by filling the children’s library in Lukodi.

Lukodi Primary School

Lukodi Primary School

The former primary school in Lukodi was the site of one of the largest massacres in the war in 2004, and until 2008 students would either walk very long distances to a nearby village or not go to school at all. ChildVoice International built a new primary school for the Lukodi community, and now over 300 students are enrolled in grades one through seven – including several that live with their mothers at the ChildVoice Lukodi Centre.  Each student at the school benefits from the ChildVoice feeding program that provides healthy lunches every school day.  For many of the children who attend the Lukodi Primary School, this is their only source of food each day.

How your gift can help the Lukodi Primary School:

School desk (seats 3)

Students are flooding the newly opened primary school, which is struggling to meet the demand of the returning Lukodi population.  Too many of the children are left to sit on the classroom’s concrete floor for the school day.  You can supply the primary school with desks that will give students a proper workspace in school!

Backpack

No matter the culture, a backpack goes a long way in helping a student keep his or her books, papers, and other supplies in order.  You can equip northern Uganda’s young students with the tools they need to succeed as learners.

School uniform

Uniforms are required for students to attend school in Uganda.  Make this the most important clothing gift you’ll ever give!

Library books

Help develop a lending library to supplement learning among Lukodi’s children.

Notebooks

Give the tools every student needs to succeed!

Textbooks in the local language

The first four primary grades are taught in Luo, the local language. New textbooks in their native language will benefit Lukodi’s youngest learners.

Pack of pencils

Teachers and students in northern Uganda cannot take for granted even the most basic school supplies.  Your small gift will ensure that a student at the Lukodi Primary School has a pencil to use every day that school is in session.

Punena Health Centre

Punena Health Centre

Punena Health Centre is a rural clinic that serves villagers who live too far from Gulu’s hospitals to access regular medical care. Although the medical clinic was built in 1998, it was never opened because it sits in territory where the rebel war raged. In June 2007, ChildVoice opened the clinic which now provides accessible and affordable health service to the surrounding communities. In the first nine months of operation, over 1,200 patients were seen each month by our team of local health professionals. A new maternity ward opened in the spring of 2008 to accommodate the needs of the many young expectant mothers in the region.

Today, over 2,000 patients are seen each month at the Punena Health Centre. More than 35 babies have been delivered in the maternity ward, including a set of twins in October. Children are receiving immunizations and many people are being tested and treated for malaria, intestinal worms, and HIV/AIDS.

How your gift can help the Punena Health Centre:

HIV testing for one person

HIV and AIDS run rampant throughout sub-Saharan Africa.  Uganda is a success story in the battle with AIDS, as its infection rate has dropped in recent years.  However, the rural areas of the North are most vulnerable, and proper testing and education are essential.  Your gift could save a life!

Medical care for a family for a year

Most families in the region cannot afford basic health care such as regular check-ups, medication, injections, and malaria protection.  Even a small donation can help a family stave off illness and remain healthy and productive in school and work.
